Crazy sound problems, please help me fix it.
Total nOOb here to slackware, and linux in general. I have alsaconf configured as root, nothing appears to be muted. I have no sound at all as root. When I log out of root and into just a local user account and startx I have sound. At least it appears that way because I can hear the start-up music as KDE loads, which I cannot hear when I startx as root. I can play cd's with no sound as root, no matter what sound mixer I use, but cannot even play cd's as user because of insuffecient rights or something like that. Any ideas? The card is an Audigy2.

As root; chmod 744 /dev/hdc to give you rights to use cd-rom as a user. Go into you're media player prefferences and adjust the Output Plugin to ALSA to see if that helps with your sound.

Well the cdrom now works as user, but not as root anymore, and still no sound, not even at boot up anymore
