Some body please help me, I followed through all the steps in this form to upgrade my kernel to 2.6.11.7. Everything went fine until i reboot my system.
I can see Lilo screen, but as soon as i selected the new kernel. My system is rebooting by itself. I checked the lilo.conf everthing is links correctly. how can i check to see what's wrong with my new Kernel.

many Thanks

did you run lilo after adding the new kernel? if so, were there any errors? have you ever compiled a kernel on that machine before and had it work? do the old kernels still work? is it a laptop or a desktop? when exactly is it rebooting, i.e., are you seeing any screen output at all? what linux distribution?

yes i did run lilo at last, and there was no error. I haven't never compiled a kernel on the machine before. The old kernel is still working . I'm running slack on Via C3 epia Mini-ITX board. After I selected the new kernel on Lilo menu then hit <enter> :

Boot: Slackware

Loading Slackware ....................................................................
Bios data check successful

And its rebooting itself

thanks for all your help.

it could be practically anything. all i can say for now is double check your kernel options, make sure all your hardware is supported, make sure things that need to be * aren't built as modules, and check back after you have done some kernel troubleshooting.

one suggestion would be to load the config of the kernel that's working into make menuconfig, and then take out only what you know for sure you don't need. once you have a semi stripped-down kernel booting, you can start taking out more options, a few at a time, until you get down to where you want to be.

longnam, I just upgraded to 2.6.11.6 and you actually have to compile into the kernel frame buffer support for the console I was getting a black screen after the lilo splash screen, check the posts on this page:

Hope this is of some help
