the firewall is built in already - it's called iptables. You can download graphical tools for configuring it, though. ClamAV is an antivirus product that can be used on Linux, but a lot of Linux users just run without an antivirus program.

Did you solve it?
You open up a terminal(Konsole in KDE) when you are in X to write commands.
You wont need an Antivirus program or an Antispyware program. Virus and spyware doesn't exist in Linux.
Every dist comes with something called iptables that is a kind of firewall. But you have to edit it by hand though.
Unless you get one of the different GUI's for iptables, one of them is "Firestarter". Google and you shall find.

Try Guarddog ( http://www.simonzone.com/software/guarddog/
) for building your firewall. It's a gui for ipchains/iptables (the Linux firewall system) that is very easy to use.

Ok, there are viruses, but the ones that exist are pretty dead by now.

What he means is virsus and spyware can and do exist. The problem is they can't do much without root. Since most people do not surf and do normal things as root, its often a dead issue. ClamAv is good but most often just gets a chance to show off when scanning windows files you may be storing on your linux box. After all, you wouldn't want to pass the clap unknowingly to your windows friends...
