Could not connect Ethernet0 to virtual network /dev/vmnet8

I installed VMware player and installed windows xp on it, but i can't connect it to the internet.
I tried NAT mode and when i click connect, it shows me the error "Could not connect Ethernet0 to virtual network /dev/vmnet8" . If i select bridge mode instead, it connects successfully but i am not able to get an internet connection then and can't ping any ip except 192.168.1.1 .

Is there anything i should do in order to get it working ?
