Control Fans with Kernel 2.4.31?

Back when I had Debian with the 2.6 kernel I tried to install lm_sensors for my Asus A8V Deluxe motherboard. It did not work. Is there any way that I can control my fans in Slackware if I have the kernel 2.4.31? I'd like to set the RPMs at about 60% of what they are at on boot. What does the command 'modprobe fan' do? Or rather, what does the fan module do? Is there a driver somewhere that I can download that will control my fans?

The acpi-version of kernel 2.4.31 should do what you want (all acpi-functions work for me fine here out of the box): fan, thermal, processor, battery, button, ac ...

And then you'll need a script to control the fans/temps.

Look at my homepage (Link in my sig) It has one in there somewhere...

I've been told that I need lm_sensors to control fans. Is this true?

No.

I'm controlling my fans without it. Never used it.
