Console text garbled
Hi, I'm a relative noob to linux and particularly Slack. I had used Mandrake before.
My problem is everything was working fine with my system, but last night I installed xfce4. I had been running gdm on boot, but I had set the run level back to the console so I could try xfce4, my default in was gnome before. Everything worked fine (xfce4 is awsome by the way), but when I leave X and get back to the console, the text is all funky with all kinds of ascii characters, that it's unreadable. If I switch to another console the text is normal, but the first console (tty0 or tty1?) stays mixed up. Anybody see anything like this? |
Yup, I have the same thing. I'm using Enlightenment and when I logout I also get garbled text. The only solution I've found so far is to simply type "logout" (I can't see what I'm typing, but it works). After that I get a normal login in prompt and after login it all stays normal.

That's what I've been doing, thanks. It's not a big deal, just a little weird.
At least it's not just me. |
I've had the same thing... If i figure out a fix, i'll be sure to post it.

This isn't a solution, but it may save a step: try typing 'reset' instead of logging out and back in.
Enjoy! --- Cerbere |
Oh well, at least that's a bit more elegant! Thanks.

Aye, "reset" fixes me up after I do something stupid like cat an mp3 file. :)
