Console Resolution Problem After Kernel Update

Hi,

I use slack 9.1. After i compiled my new kernel 2.6.6 with the resolution and depth change enabled in kernel, my slack does not boot in the resolution i specified in lilo.conf and i login and startx.

After i startx, i log out, and my monitor becames unstable like lines are moving nothing can be seen on monitor and every text that should be on screen mixes up.

But i dont have this problem if i use it with it's initial kernel 2.4.22.

Does anyone has any ideas about this problem?

Thanks.

What does you call "resolution and depth change" in kernel ?

I think he refers to framebuffer, shockwave, see some posts ago these was discussed. I personally don't use framebuffer since i installed a 2.6 kernel.

Ok ;) the tip to get it working is to make sure all related framebuffer features are enabled as built-in not modules, be carefull with that and check it twice.

also, use vesa frame buffer (I think it is written as vesafb in menuconfig), don't use a specific framebuffer for your graphics card. When I chose the option to use my ati radeon as frame buffer device it never worked properly. Don't know if this is an ati prob though.

Yes, you right (forget to mention this), this problem can appears with nvidia card too (I experienced that)

Option that work with nvidia :

# CONFIG_FB_VGA16 is not set
CONFIG_FB_VESA=y
# CONFIG_FB_RIVA is not set
