console/cli in color

I dont know about anyone else, but i absolutly LOVE the color in slackware's console/cli. and the bootup msg's in color. not only is it pleasing to the eye, but it makes scanning the msg's flying by the screen much nicer, if i seen a differant color, than i have a reason to go check the logs to see what happend. and it gives a little more of a 'refined' feeling ..... but where is all that setup at? especially the boot msg's. ive just installed freebsd, and would like to be able to setup the same thing, but i dont even know where to start looking. (ok, i know the dirrector listing color's are set in an obvios file in /etc, with an ls --color alias) the startup msg's kinda have me at a loss

Thanks

If you're talking about the "ls" command, it's due to ls being a bash alias, automatically adding "--color=auto" to the command. Also see "man dircolors" and "/etc/DIR_COLORS" for more information.

For the command prompt, I like to have the following in my ~/.profile:
Code:
 export PS1="\[\033[1;33m\]\u@\h:\w\$\[\033[0m\] "
As to color on the startup messages, I'm puzzled. Mine are certainly in b/w and have always been. Are you 100% positive about this?

Hi

Ever seen the knoppix startup (this is what he/she means) also at a loss on how to do this though.
It does look cool though.

Cheers

I prefer Slackware init scripts. There's a implementation of Slackware init scripts using colors here: http://www.sysdev.org/site/modules.p...=article&sid=8
Here's a screenshot: http://freshmeat.net/screenshots/54764/58830/
I've never used it so I don't garantee they work, but they should
