Post consistant boot error after fresh install

ok: still trying to get a slackware install working w/ kde on a computer; old computer had to little ram, borrowing computer w/ 512 mb ram, using same 40 gig ide drive from original computer, new computer has 1.8? ghz processor and second raid drive @ 120 gb.

have tried install w/ both ataraid.i kernel and huge26.s or .i (can't remember) kernel but each time it says "kernel panic: boot error #2 something something fail boot 3:01" (not exact, this is from memory, no internet @ house). this, as said, happened a couple times, both partitions are formatted ex3 and the (boot info?) is set to superblock, or the first install option that says (not for use w/ xfs).

so, basically, stuck w/ new set of problems albiet at a lower level this time. any ideas of what the heck is going on?

one thing, the bios for the raid controller is missing on this computer, although that drive is just set for storage right now, the install is booting off of the 40 gig ide drive. i wouln't think that would affect it though.

any help would be appreciated.

If you aren't using raid, I think using a raid kernel and raid options in the grub menu.lst file might be causing problems. My guess is that the kernel is reading in stale raid superblocks on how to assemble the raid device when there isn't one.

nah huge26.s should be fine, but try disabling the raid drive in the bios and see if you can get it to boot
