config file for kernel-modules?

Does anyone know where to find the config file for building the standard kernel-modules package? Or is a certain Makefile rule used which builds all modules?

The reason I need it is because I am creating a generic src2pkg script for packaging kernels and kernel-modules. There used to be a separate .config file for building the modules, but I don't seem to find anything related to the sources for the kernel-modules package.

I know that the regular SlackBuild scripts create a package from the installed kernel and modules. Of course the config files are available for the various kernels, but I don't find one for the modules.

/proc/config.gz will have the config file for the current running kernel.

Yeah, I know that. But the config file for building the kernel-modules is not the same as that. The config file for building the kernel-modules package builds nearly all features of the kernel as modules -more or less the opposite of what the config for the 'huge' kernel does.

I think it is just this that you are looking for: ./source/k/config-generic-smp-2.6.24.5-smp

Eric, sorry to hound you, but in a related item, how about a SlackBuild for kernel-headers. I don't recall ever having seen one. I have built them more than once, but it was quite awhile ago. I guess PatV builds these by hand -I know there is some variation depending on the kernel version. Is there some reference for 'sanitized' headers I can refer to, or can the (updated) filelist only be had through trial and error? Thanks loads for your help on this.

Ahhh so, I think I've found the answer to this one. From (roughly) the archlinux PKGBUILD:

make headers_check
make INSTALL_HDR_PATH=$PKG/usr headers_install

sorry to mention that too,
i thought, for src2pkg you may need the config for the curent running kernel.
config file for the kernel packaged with slackware is there in the package itself with name starting with "config-.."

whenever i compile a kernel i use the pats config file to start with

glad that you got the answer
regards

I spent the whole day yesterday working out src2pkg scripts for creating kernel and kernel-modules packages. I'm going to create a new thread about them and offer them for testing before including them in the exampls that come with src2pkg. The nice part is that I have them working so that you don't have to be root to build them and create packages and they won't overwrite existing files.
