haha, well you shouldn't really worry since they did release a binary version of it.

Hmm, the link you gave me explained about the possibility of the lock, but no real fix to it.

Check out that "firefox" script. The different sections have good comments, so it's easy to see which part of the script is responsible for checking whether an instance of FF is already running.

My bash scripting skills aren't all that great, so I don't know whether all of that could be commented out or if something could just be changed. I also don't know if there would be any other consequences to changing this behavior. But maybe you'll be able to experiment and see if you can't make it work as you'd like.

Just curious as to your reason for not just using a new tab or window when you need another browser ?

CTRL N for new window, CTRL T for new tab

I do alot of code testing here and there, and i like seperating my work from my normal browsing. I have 2 virtual terminals, and like having more than one FF browser open.. sometimes three or four, divided between them.

I also have a few other reasons. It used to work between FF 1.0 and 1.0.4.

That looks like some kind of gtk2 problem.

What options did you use when you compiled?

That's what I have, too - the package from -current.

Ever since upgrading gtk2, I get the following error when I run FF:
Code:
Gdk-WARNING **: gdk_property_get(): length value has wrapped in calculation (did you pass G_MAXLONG?)
This would happen with FF 1.0.4 as well as the new 1.0.5.

Now I don't know if that has anything at all to do with the blank dialogue boxes you're seeing, but it does make me wonder.

That's about my only idea at this point, though...

FF works fine for me, too, but the error is definately new. I never saw it before upgrading gtk2.

Since the program works, I'm not losing any sleep over it.

I wonder if the ./configure options

Code:
--enable-single-profile
--disable-profilesharing
have anything to do with the, er, single profile problem?

This is getting rediculous...

after ommitting
--enable-single-profile
--disable-profilesharing
or even switching them over to
--disable-single-profile
--enable-profilesharing

I get a make error now.
Code:

Heh.. nevermind.. a few compiles later and it seemed to have worked. And after comparing it with the one from LP.. there's really not that much of a difference (except the effort taken to compile)

Thanks.
