Im planning to build a custom pc soon:

AMD Phenom quad 9950+
4 Gb pc8400
250 Gb SATA 3.0
NVidia NForce 750
and possibly later i want to add a tv tuner /w dvr.
802.11 B/G pci card.

but the thing is, is slackware compatible with the hardware. is there anywhere i can look up wether its compatible before i buy the parts? last time i built a pc it worked all except the wifi even with ndiswrapper(kinda sucked since i didnt have a wired connection)

The major things you want to look out for would be the tuner card and WLAN card, but since you have no definite models at the moment it is obviously impossible to say if they will be supported.

You might also have problems with the onboard audio and NIC on the motherboard, but again, as you didn't give a specific model there is no way to say for sure.

I think NForce chipsets are pretty well supported under Linux in general, but I don't know how new the 750 is and if it is supported or not.

those were basic aproximate specs, but after looking around the mobo im looking at is http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...231&CatId=3586

the nForce 750 is an 8 series, SLI capable for when i add a vid card.
the audio is hidef(although i cant find wat chipset) which is why i chose xp sp2 not sp3(takes some tweeking to get sp3 working with hda)
and i have no clue yet bout the wifi or tuner, but the tuner will more than likely be pcie x1 interface

That will be a nice Slackware box! I recently went through a similar process as you when I bought a used Intel Core Duo unit on ebay. These resources may help you to determine if all of your hardware is linux ready.
