command line user administration??


Is there such a tool in slackware Im just looking for a command line utility to show all user accounts and be able to change modify? Is there one tool.. or will i need multiple???

Ummm.... AFAIK, nope. I'd suggest learning the command line though, there will be times when your stuck without your gui type utilities.

To view:
less /etc/passwd

and to modify:
usermod

You should avoid using /etc/passwd directly. A better way to list the users in /etc/passwd is:

getent passwd

ok.. All I am looking for actually... is how to list all users that have accounts on the machine? (from the CL of course)

btw.. I have no problem with the command line.. just wondering if there was a tool that listed the users and gave account opitons for them... but all i really need is to list all users on the machine

Well, two ways have been mentioned already. Users are listed in your passwd file in the /etc directory.

I guess if you don't want to touch /etc/passwd word

lastlog

will print out all the usernames

lastlog | cut -f1 -d' '

to get rid of the extra info it gives you
