Thanks for sharing the script T3slider - as you're aware, 'tis much easier to modify an existing script than to create one from scratch; I've never really been concerned about tagging the music files, and my existing files are organized similar to your setup, so there shouldn't be a whole lot of tweaking.

Hello,

I tend to do everything on command line, only starting x if I want to watch a movie or use firefox.

mp3blaster is ideal for playing mp3 and wav files, supports tagging, playlists etc. It has a very nice curses interface and is very simple and efficient.

Likewise centerim(used to be centericq) is awesome for connecting to im networks. It apparently supports all the main ones, although I just use it for MSN. It has a very nice curses interface as well.

These two should be exactly what you are after.
