Color management on slackware 14.2

Hello!

Is there a color management how-to for slackware?

I have a epson inkjet printer and monitor. And i want printer to print exactly what is on display, and display to show true color.

Packages installed:
  • colord
  • colord-gtk
  • xcalib
  • iccprofiles
  • oyranos
  • gnome-color-manager
  • DisplayCAL

Packages i can`t build on Slackware
  • lprof
  • monica

---------------------------

So. How to use above stuff to:

1). Install ICM profile file for monitor Benq T705
Code:
xcalib T705.ICM
has no effect.

2). Install paper+ink icm profile file for printer under CUPS.

3). Calibrate monitor (visual method - like on macOS - see tests on screen and manipulate color options on monitor control panel).

4). Calibrate printer (also visual method as i haven`t calibration hardware).

Code:
cups-calibrate
has a little effect: prints remain yellowish.

---------------------------

It seems, gnome-color-manager does not work properly:

Code:
gcm-import <profile>.icm
dies with error

Quote:
Failed to import file
The profile was not added in time

What desktop are you using?

I think you need to be running a settings daemon like gnome-settings-daemon or colord-kde for gnome-color-manager. Or you could use the Cinnamon desktop. Since you've already added gnome-color-manager and colord-gtk, Cinnamon should "just work". (Also, you might need to compile gnome-color-manager with --disable-packagekit. Not sure about that.)

Edit: You could also just add the profile within GIMP and preview your print that way.

I can't comment on the printer-calibration, but to calibrate my screens all I need to install is argyllcms. The following guide is what I use: https://encrypted.pcode.nl/blog/2013...ling-on-linux/ and it works well on Slackware.

I've kept things simple, so in my case I use the autoload approach together with xfce4. I don't bother with colord.

btw) When installing argyllcms from SBo you might have to be root to be able to access calibration devices.

WindowMaker doesn't have its own settings daemon. That's why gnome-color-manager isn't behaving as expected. You could run xiccd and then gnome-color-manager should work within WindowMaker.
