Cleaning my installation (remove all software and settings)
Hi, I'd like to clean my installation. What I mean by that is that I'd like to make it as if I just installed Slack. I want to do this because I've installed many unneeded things and have lots of corrupted files like GNOME themes and such. Could anyone help me go about this? I don't really want to reinstall Linux, because it seems like there should be an easier, less time consuming way.

I've never tried to use it, but slackpkg has a clean-system option that supposedly restores your system to a clean Slackware install.
I'd back things up before I did it though. I'm not sure what an automatic system clean like that would/could break.

Wow, uh... it wiped out my system. I couldn't even log in. I guess I'll have to reinstall anyway now. Thanks for your help though.
EDIT: I didn't back up everything, thats why I have to reinstall. I pretty much just backed up all my custom stuff.

Ouch. Just out of curiosity, what Gnome flavor were you using?

I suppose that could be part of why it went kablooie. I don't use Dropline, but I understand that it does do some pretty fundamental system changes. I know some of the Dropline people are here pretty regularly, maybe they could shed a little light on potential pitfalls (or lack thereof) from uninstalling Dropline. I suppose it could also be that since slackpkg uses a standard slackware repository for its guide, it gets confused by some of the dropline packages.

Last time I tried dropline it overwrote my xorg.conf. Needless to say I wasn't impressed since I had configured all settings manually because the auto setup progs didn't detect my monitor correctly.

OK folks, I'd rather not have this turn into a Dropline slagfest. We already have plenty of those. I was just hoping that someone from Dropline actually knows a bit about the pitfalls of uninstalling Dropline.
