Claws, Thunderbird or Mutt
After reading many posts (pros and cons) of these three email clients I am looking for the one how can provided the services that I need without too much problem. The setup will be:
1. a single email (pop and smtp) account with Lavabit. 2. Most of the email are going to be encrypted. 3. And half of those email will contain an attachment. So what are my options? Can you please say which one you are using and how do you like? What do you like/dislike the most out the one that you are using? My idea behind this is not that you take the decision for me, but to be aware of what to expect. |
I really like claws-mail, it is feature-rich, and does not use a lot of system resources.

I like Thunderbird 14 - it's not resource-friendly by any means, and there are long-standing bugs in some features which aren't part of the workflow that the vast majority of users follow, but for the simple stuff it's dependable. Enigmail makes encryption a breeze to handle, and with Lightning I find myself able to handle communication and scheduling (with synchronisation) in a single application, which is nice. If you decide to try Thunderbird, you may find LookOut helpful if you receive attachments from Outlook-using colleagues or friends.

I have been most satisfied with Claws-Sylpheed.

I use Claws Mail myself with some Lavabit accounts.
The advantages of Claws Mail are that it is very light on resources, takes little time to load, you can activate a lot of plug-ins without wasting too many resources or speed... it can cope GPG/MIME or GPG/Inline encryption and signing, plus S/MIME if you want to. I have nothing against Mutt, but I have never found it as convenient. Thuderbird is nice but it is generally slower and has more "visual bloat". The advantage is that it handles HTML mails (which Claws Mail can't create, and can only read with limitations unless a plug-in is installed). |

There are many good email clients, but Mutt rules. :) Have used that for many years as well.
