Changing monitor resolution

i can't figure out how to change the resolution to 1280x1024 from 1024x768 in slackware. i tried editing the xorg.conf to include the resolution i want in the default color mode, but there's still no option in either kde or gnome that allows more than 1024x768. i can't figure out any other way to configure x to work with higher resolutions. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your resolution options are going to vary with your video card and monitor settings.

Make sure you have both of these set up to the correct values, then if they support the higher resolution it should become avaliable.

i have everything setup right (to the best of my knowledge) and i know for sure that my video card/monitor combination work with much higher resolutions

whoa nevermind. my horizontal/vertical scan ranges were set incorrectly

Did that open up the resolution you were wanting?

yes it did. but i had to also add "1280x1024" to xorg.conf
