changing devices in RAID 5

Hi,

I have software RAID 5 with 3 disks/partitions:
- /dev/hdb1 [0]
- /dev/hde1 [1]
- /dev/hdg1 [2]

I want to move /dev/hdg or /dev/hdb to another IDE slot and it will become /dev/hdf ...

What will happen to RAID after that? Will raid-tools be able to recognize these changes and be able to use this configuration?

I read somewhere that if I add a new disk/partition to RAID, it should get a letter above the greatest one in RAID (example: if my /dev/hdg is the last disk I have, the new one should be /dev/hdh and so on).

I would like to add a new disk and to move some disks to other IDE slots. I have a lot of data on this RAID and have no possibility to backup everything.

any ideas?

thanks a lot

M.
