Changing Device Numbers?

I have a machine with two SCSI disks. No matter which slot I plug it in, whenever I create a partition with cfdisk, it shows up as Name sda2 or sda5, on both disks. This causes a problem, since I'd like to have the second disk work.

Right now, I have sda2 (primary partition) and sda5 (swap) setup on the first disk, that is in the first slot.

How can I make it so they don't conflict?

Edit: Nope, not fixed.

the assigned partition numbers can't be changed.
linux follows a naming convention. for i386 (your using a PC right?) the partitions are assigned numbers in the order they were created. primary partions get 1-4 and logical ones get 5 up to 15 for SCSI drives

this is what your partition table looks like

sda1 - extended
sda2 - primary linux partition
sda3 - empty
sda4 - empty
sda5 - logical swap partition
sda6 - empty
sda7 - empty

you can check yourself using sfdisk -l /dev/sda

i don't think there is such thing as a partition conflict
you'll find your second SCSI drive should be located /dev/sdb
partition it using cfdisk /dev/sdb

linux... f... yes.
