Changing an NTFS partition to FAT

I have two hard disks on my system. Both are IDE drives, 20Gb in size.

I have Slack on /dev/hdb and Win2k on /dev/hda1. Win2k takes up 10Gb of the first hard drive. The other 10GB is formatted in NTFS, it's a logical partition. I want to convert this to FAT so that I can use it as a shared drive between Win2k and Slack.

I tried ot use cfdisk (using Slack10 installation cds) to delete the ntfs partition and then rewrite as a FAT partition. However I cannot mount it as a FAT partition, wrong fs type the warning told me. I logged into Win2k and sure enough the drive is still there and is still NTFS. Can anyone tell me how to convert it??

Conversion of NTFS to FAT32 can only be done with commercial Windows apps. One which I know of is Partition Magic.

However, if you do find find an alternative, do let me know.

Conversion suggests you will do that without loosing any data. But when I read your post, you do not want to keep data or there is no data on the drive. You can use the Windows Disk Manager to manage your drives. (control panel, administrative tools, computer management, disk management) .
