change audio output socket

Hi I have an Asus sound card and on a new rig I find that the sound comes out of one output socket on Slackware and a different one on Windows.

Is there a way to change the socket that Slackware uses so I don't have to keep changing the jack for my speakers?

You'll need to create an .asoundrc file and using dmix or another mixer like JACK for example to redirect audio around your system to the various ports like front and rear. The ALSA website may have more information on doing that.

something like, haven't tested
http://drona.csa.iisc.ernet.in/~uday/alsamch.shtml

where, for example
ttable.0.2 1
means put channel 0's output to channel 2
0 and 1 should be left and right stereo, so putting them to 2 and 3 would output to a different plug

PS is it xonar ds ?

Thanks guys, I'll have a look at an asoundrc.

To genss, it's a Xonar D1 - it's a really nice card. A few years old but still going strong.

I changed it in through the Asus control centre in Windows. Seems to have sorted it out.

Thanks guys again.
