cfdisk: read-only?

I tried to use cfdisk to make a swap partition but it said 'read only: you don't have permission to write'

Despite being root, I have this problem. Trying to install Slackware 12.0 via the DVD.iso, if it matters.

Did you cfdisk the right partition?
When I wrote cfdisk without an argument during installation it tried to partition the CD. Had to write cfdisk /dev/sda to get the drive right.

Cheers
