Hi all!,
before i say anything else i just need to point out that i have been searching pretty much all day for the following
CD LABELING SOFTWARE
and nothing! i found tonnes of apps for creating covers and inlays but ZERO for labels? i have 1000's of discs and i just purchased a new printer, so i want to get started labeling them (and no i dont wanna use a cd marker)
Please Please Please! does anyone know of anything that i could use?
sorry angryfirelord,
i should really start to practice making myself clearer. i didnt purchase an actual cd printer i just purchased a colour laser printer. for what it's worth its a konika minolta colour laser. it's the 1st printer iv'e actually purchased, i had one before but it was 2nd hand. i saved for over 9 months!
Woohoo!
Finally i got it to work! i created a template in open office set the page margins to line up with the edge of the round sticker and bingo bango!
Thanks a million everyone! at least iv'e learned some new things so it wasnt a lost cause after all!
Just to expand a bit on creating CD labels in OO.org. Use OO Draw to lay out the label creating a layer for the text and separate layer for the circular guidelines. Print a couple samples to see that the text and graphics are where you want them. If not, you can easily tweak the position with the arrow keys (change the grid spacing under preferences if you need to) and then set the guide layer to non-printing, locked (double click on the layer tab) when you're done.
You can do labels in any vector art program like Inkscape, for example. Even GIMP would work, but it won't he as easy to tweak the layout. Basically all you are doing is printing a letter or A4 sheet (depending on the size of the CD carrier your printer uses) with the text and graphics centered above the CD blank. A little trial and error testing will give you a perfect template. At PLUG we print CDs for the monthly InstallFest with a layer for the PLUG graphics and a separate layer for the distro name and disk number. Turning layers on and off (making them printing or non-printing) lets us use one template for multiple purposes.
