look friends,
I inserted the Slackware DVD and when it prompted for
Code:
boot:
I typed in the following command:
Code:
boot:huge.s root=/dev/sda8 rdinit= ro
I finally managed to get to the OS....but gui is not present. I have to work in a shell.

Then installed fedora and updated the GRUB accordingly (to get all fedora, windows and slackware boot up options.)

I thought if I boot up slackware it would land me up into the GUI version of slackware...it but says
Code:
unsupported file format
I don,t understand this....i want slackware to run in GUI mode...
so can you please help me.

If you built Slackware with EXT4,GRUB will not recognize it. You could use "ntldr" in XP instead but first you have to get lilo to work. "startx" will start the window manager but first do "adduser" and build a user account. Running "X" in root is still a bad idea. IMHO

But can I log directly into slackware like we do in fedora. We get a login screen and just enter the username and password

Edit /etc/inittab, change the 3 in this line to 4:

Code:
id:3:initdefault:

yes you can
Use a text editor to open the /etc/inittab
where you see this id:3:initdefault:
change to id:4:initdefault:
Save and exit the file
you will boot to Multiuser startup
