[solved] cant install nvidia driver in slackware 12.1

I have a previous installation of slackware 12.0 and i sucessfully installed the nvidia driver 96.43.01 into my box. But now that i have upgraded to slackware 12.1 the installation now fails. my video card is geforce4 mx 440. please help. it says something that i need to specify the location of SYSSRC environment variable but i dont know how to do that. I'm now left with text mode and lynx as my web browser.

You should take a look at the nvidia slackBuilds as well. The driver slackBuild (with nvidia-switch) will allow you to easily switch between the kernel driver and proprietary driver.

Before you install the packages created from the nvidia slackBuilds, I recommend that you uninstall the nvidia driver that you installed with the .run file (it has an uninstall command).

What does the SlackBuild version get you that just running the driver's install file does not, aside from the switch? I am having a little trouble related to the nvidia driver and I am wondering if that would clear it up.

Basically, just integration in Slackware's package-management. If you have problems with the driver itself not working correctly, you might have the problem with the SlackBuilds as well. If your problem is kernel-2.6.25, the SlackBuilds will help you, cause patches for it are included. But it's probably easier to answer if you explain your problem in more detail.
