Cant install artwiz fonts

I'm trying to install the artwiz font set...

I download it from http://artwizaleczapka.sourceforge.net/

Then I extract it to /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts. Then cd to it's directory as per the instructions. Then if I type "fc-cache -fv ./" as a user, I get errors because I don't have write permission. But if I do it as root, it doesn't work at all, I just get a command not found error.

So I went on following the instructions and added the line "FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/artwiz-aleczapka-en-1.3/:unscaled" to /etc/xorg.conf

I also added the line "<dir>/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/artwiz-aleczapka-en-1.3/</dir>" to my /etc/fonts/fonts.conf file, and then restarted X. It didn't work so I did a reboot, still nothing.

I think the problem was with the fc-cache command not working for root, but I'm not sure. Can anyone help me with this?

How did you do it as root? Did you actually log in as root or just su while logged in as a regular user?

If you used su then the command isn't in your PATH and you need to type in the full location of the command for it to run.

Or change to root using su - instead of su (the - will tell su to load enviroment var like PATH).

Btw, I'm not at home right now, when I'm back i'll tell you exactly what u do because I installed them some days ago.

EDIT: I didn't follow their instructions but they worked for me. I created a file named /etc/fonts/local.conf with the following content (it's loaded automatically by fonts.conf if it exists):
Code:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM "fonts.dtd">
<fontconfig>

	<dir>/usr/X11/lib/fonts/local/artwiz:unscaled</dir>

</fontconfig>
And added this line to my xorg.conf file:
Code:
	FontPath     "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/local/artwiz/"
Of course I run the fc-cache file and all worked fine luckily

Thanks for the link to artwiz fonts, they look great

When attempt to run fc-cache as root, do no forget to give the full path :
/usr/X11R6/bin/fc-cache
