cant figure my wireless out - Slack 10.1

I just installed Slack 10.1 and updated my kernel to 2.6.11 but I can't for the life of me get Slack to recognize my wireless card, intel pro/wireless 2915, I have installed the ipw2200 module and the required firmware. if I go to the command prompt and enter ifconfig it just gives me the "lo" I'm sure there is some simple thing that I'm missing. Any help would be appriciated.
