cant boot from DVD-CD ROM

so its a long story:

- i have an installed Slackware 13 on one of my laptops!
- i did a fault and didn't setting up the lilo correctly by installing the Slackware - i have 99 error now - because of time issue - i had to learn for some exam at that time - i didn't care about it and tried to use each time for a booting of the installed version on my hard drive, the Slackware DVD.
- after a while i did one more fault and shut it not so friendly down as i had to!
- and know i cant boot form CD/DVD ROM anymore. not even a windows live CD, so clearly i had to say, that CD/DVD ROM doesn't wanna boot.

what i need? i need some tips!

- what i believe could solve the issue? just one time booting with an OS.

- the possibilities are:
1.a LAN booting, which is not possible know.
2.an USB booting, which i need some tips and help about it, cuz i don't have any experience there, and i didn't find a good manual for that on net!

OR someone has a better idea to solve the issue!

thank in advance,
inman.

Try enabling cdrom booting in your bios.

At first glance your DVD drive might have died. Check out the following link on how to create a bootable USB drive.

Hi,

You could clean the lens on the DVD drive to see if that helps.

just for the record.
i took the hard drive out and put it in an external hard drive case, so i connected it to my other laptop & did a boot with the Slackware disk. i mounted the drive on /mnt ( i did that to change lilo.conf after all, maybe for the next steps i didn't need this ). after that i did a setup as a normal installation of Slackware but took as target partition, the external hard drive -should be sdaX- and didn't format it. i continued with installation until the step, which asked for the packages contained sources, i canceled the installation there and turned back to setup menu.
at this point i could take reconfiguration possibility for a newly installed Slackware. i allowed it do everything, expect that one step for renewing of fstab.
i put the drive back in my other laptop and all things work perfect again, expect kde 4.2, which never did that before & it's the Patrick's fault not mine!

honestly i don't know what was the issue, as all other person who i asked and they answered me with cleaning the lens or changing boot list by bios!!!! my instinct wasn't wrong & there was some Records on hard, which don't let me boot form CD. i cant explain this, cause hard drive don't take affect on a boot from CD-Rom, or im wrong and it does!
regard,
inman.

Hi,

You never stated what the hardware specifications are for the machine in question. We all responded with general things to do. It could have been those simple things in hopes of getting a install.

It's easier for some to fault others for their lack of understanding than to delve into the problem to resolve. You need to remember that most of us are helpers here. We can't look over your shoulder to view the information so lack of providing necessary information fall back on the poster. We can't mysteriously or magically look at a post an respond with the instant solution unless information allows us to discern a solution.

My suggestion to you is to read 'How to Ask Questions the Smart Way'. This hopefully will assist you in future composition of your queries.
