In the install instructions there is a section for usb.
It will tell you what you need do. I'm not presently using apcupsd on my 10.2, but used to. Install instructions are in the web page as well

i read the enrire usb section and the possible solution for my problem is not to use a secure kernel, or recompile the kernel with the recommended usb options, i not using a secure kernel, i recompiled my kernel with the recommended usb options, and the result are the same...
what are you using instead apcupsd?

Nothing. Power failures are rare now.
I'm using the 2.4 kernel, never compiled.
I remember that it was necessary to do this as required in the USB Configuration subsection: " Check /dev, /dev/usb, and /dev/usb/hiddev and if you cannot find the hiddevN nodes, run (as root) the examples/make-hiddev script from the apcupsd source distribution."
So you should see what you need in the "examples" file.
