Cannot read audio CD

I have a system that I have run various Linux distros for years (RH7.0)
and never had a problem reading audio CDs until I installed Slackware 10.2.
I have a Plexor CD write drive.
I boot with the hdc=ide_scsi option.
I have the ide_scsi module up.
I can mount /dev/sr0 or /dev/scd0 fine
I can cdrecord dev=0,0,0 fine
but cdda2wav -D0,0,0 just sits there and does nothing.
Neither can I get hdc or sr0 or scd0 to work in a KsCD despite resetting permissions and every other thing I can think of.
Am I missing something obvious?

I don't know if you've mistyped it, but it's hdc=ide-scsi, rather than ide_scsi.

Yes it is "hdc=ide-scsi"

Thanks for looking. I was just typing this too fast last night.

Thanks

Many thanks to those who have taken the time to respond.

I think I am getting a better handle on this problem.
I discovered that after booting in run level 2
I can run the command "cdda2wav -D0,0,0 -t..."
and it finds and reads the audio CD in CD writer that is using SCSI emulation. But after I go into KDE it no longer works.

So, does anyone have a clue about this? Is there perhaps a module that is getting loaded that might be conflicting with this device? Please let me know if you have had any experience with this kind of thing.

Here is the output of my lsmod after starting KDE
