Cannot automount usb device

I'm using Dropline Gnome 2.14.2 with Slackware 10.2, kernel 2.6.13 and when I plug in a usb device (e.g., iPod), the Gnome desktop produces a "Cannot mount volume" error. I am able to manually mount the iPod through entries in the fstab. Any ideas?

You should remove (or comment out) any entries in /etc/fstab for drives that you'd like HAL to manage.

You also need a newer kernel, as stated in the release:
dropline GNOME works with the default Slackware kernel. However, certain features like auto-mounting will not work, unless a 2.6.16.x kernel is installed and in use.

I do have newer kernels here, if you don't care to build yourself:

(look for kernel-generic, kernel-modules, and kernel-source)

Scott.
