Can I use current Ooo source with slackware 13.37 slackbuild

I'm using slackware 13.37 and want to know if it is possible to use current Ooo Open Office Source and the Slackbuild for 13.37 to build and install Open office? Thanks

I bet it would work as long as you have the latest jdk installed. I can confirm the latest jdk works fine on 13.37.
Best thing to do is run that slackbuild and report back ;-)

Thanks, I've looked at other threads and libre office is recommended. I'm only familiar with open office and its compatibility with MS extensions. Really just need resume and faxing tools for XFCE 4.6 What do you think?
Your time is appreciated.

Libre Office is what's running on my 13.37 system, and it works fine. OO.o and LO are pretty similar. It is noteworthy that MLED's developer has chosen OO.o for his business and organizational clients. I'm fairly confident that the general consensus states that OO.o is more predictable and a bit more "professional" feeling than LO in its development and GUI style.
EDIT: Forgot to mention efax-gtk is really a fun and simple fax "machine"!

Or you could simple use these, which are a repackaging of the RPMS. No need to build Open Office for days.

Edit: I'll publish a package for Xfce. The menu entries are different here, since MLWS is KDE-oriented.

Thank you everyone.. I found a slackbuild for 13.37 - openoffice.org.SlackBuild -this will do for my neighbor's laptop he's a first time slacker ;)
Libre Office will probably fit my personal needs & PC. Question is whether this script:
http://slackbuilds.org/slackbuilds/1...ice.org.tar.gz
downloads the RPM source from openoffice.org or do I have to download it into my SlackBuild folder? Again much appricate everyone's instructions and opinions.

STDOUBT thank you for the MLED's link .. See I can download from there as kikinovak suggests too. Hopefully the install is in english. lol Super - missed point before...been working on this laptop too long.
Have jdk-6 in packages/extra/ ...

Happy to report that I was able to directly download MLED Ooo 3.4.1 for Slackware-13.37 64bit box and 32bit laptop from:
http://taper.alienbase.nl/mirrors/pe...ackware64/xap/
and use installpkg. Both are working great. Wonder do I get writer templates? Is there such a thing for Resumes & Faxes? Thank you kikinovak ;) for making Slackware life so much easier.

kikinovak, Hate to report that after shutting down and restarting my Slackware64 Ooo package has disappeared?
Code:

~/Desktop$ slocate open office
/home/art/Downloads/openoffice-3.4.1_en_US-x86_64-2_microlinux.txz
/usr/share/mime/application/vnd.openofficeorg.extension.xml

I don't know. But it's still on the server, in case. ;)

funny thing the 32bit version is fine on the laptop. I still have the downloaded pkg on my pc box. wonder if it has anything to do with the mime data base? On the laptop its right in the XFCE 4 Settings Manager and in Xfce Office menu.

kikinovak 11-04-2013 11:25 PM

@Night Sky: if you're using Xfce as your main desktop, you might prefer this version, with better Xfce menu integration:

http://www.microlinux.fr/slackware/M...microlinux.txz (32-bit)

http://www.microlinux.fr/slackware/M...microlinux.txz (64-bit)

Cheers,

Niki

Well, here's the link to the respective xap/ directories. Check for 'openoffice'.
