I would have to say that ssh was one of the easiest things (for me) to set up. And trust me, I'm no guru. If you have to poke a hole in a firewall it will of course be somewhat more difficult - particularly while maintaining security.

It's really just a matter of running the ssh daemon on the server and having the client machines properly set up in the hosts file. Of course there can be much more involved but that's for you to read up on. Look into PuTTY for SSH from a windows client.

But like most things, it's easy to do badly and hard to do well.

man ssh

Like most man pages, you need to read it several times before you're even sure it's written in english.

Google is your friend.

Have fun!

Rerun your install scripts from pkgtool, select the option for sytem services, select sshd ( if not allready). Go to /ect/hosts and make sure the appropriate entry exists for any client machine you wish to access the server from:

192.168.1.xx hostname.local hostname

from the client, start a term and type 'ssh hostname'
You will get a warning requiring a yes/no response from you. Type "yes", enter password and your logged into a terminal session on the server. From here you can su or you could have logged in as root. Then you can edit config scripts on the server etc.
