Can I install an alternative to the KDE Partition Manager? If so, which one?
Hello:
I don't think that the KDE Partition Manager works well on my PC. When I have used it, it often says that there was some sort of error; details escape me. But, if I do the exact same thing with Parted Magic Live CD, I get no errors. May be it is just me. SlackBuilds has gparted with 6 dependencies. If I use sbopkg, do I select the last dependency first, the second to last dependency second and so on, or does order matter? Finally, and I am embarrassed to ask this in a Slackware forum but, is there an easier way to get a different partition manager? Is there a better partition manager? Thanks, |
I use gparted all the time http://gparted.sourceforge.net/
As far as KDE partition manager, try running it from a terminal window and see if you get any output as far as warnings or errors. As look for any logs that might pertain to the program, including /var/log/messages for the heck of it. Doesn't hurt... |
If you don't re-partition often (say, several times everyday), I recommend GParted Live CD/USB.
|
remember you can use also some command line magic (article is pretty old but still applies). ;)

Gparted on the Parted Magic live CD is my favourite... ! Parted Magic has a media player(xmms2) so you can listen to your music while working.

Thanks to all.
I installed gparted from Slackbuilds and all is OK. Marking a SOLVED. |
Awesome, glad to hear all is well!
