can I avoid restarting when resuming internet connection

To disconnect from the internet I do a "ifconfig eth0 down" but to resume it again I usually power down and back up again, whereupong rc.inet1.conf is called and I get the internet connection back again.

Occasioally I have tried resuming by just sourcing rc.inet1, but this doesn seem to work

What is a nice way to resume the network connection after "ifconfig <iface> down"?

Thanks in adv.

As root:
Code:
/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 eth0_start
BTW you could also use:
"/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 eth0_stop" instead if "ifconfig eth0 down".
