What error do you get - if any? What makes you think you can't use them?

it says for all 3,

bash: iwconfig: command not found
bash: ifconfig: command not found
bash: iwlist: command not found

although they work fine as root.

thanks for the input

Make sure the directory they are in is in your $PATH varaible or use the full path - ie:
/sbin/ifconfig

Take a look at sudo and visudo's man page. I would recommend you to use that because it'll give access to your user to run those commands and run them with root priviliges so you can access those devices without getting permissions problems.
