Question Can't unlock session

Running Slackware64 v13.0 kernel 2.6.29.6 & I admit that I probably hosed some permissions w/i the file /usr (sub folders bin, share, &/or lib64). Can log in as normal user at first. Cannot unlock session once screensaver locks it. Root is not affected. Which permissions/ownership on which files do I need to change to what values? Have tried setting screensaver to not start or lock, but it still locks when/if starts. Any help greatly appreciated.

Is root the owner of xscreensaver or is the individual user?
