Can't startx twice on Slackware VirtualMachine

I'm running Slackware 14 in VirtualBox to check it out before possibly installing it as my main system.

After installing VBOX additions and running xorgsetup everything run properly each time I startx just after booting the virtual machine.

However if I log out from x to do something as root I can't startx again, neither as root or as another user.

Below is /var/log/Xorg.0.log from last time it happened.

Any ideas on why a can't seem to startx twice?

Thanks!

As for the explanation of why it does work the first time, but not the second, I wouldn't be surprised if it had something to do with virtualbox itself.

Hello,

I have several Slackware (from 13.0 to 14.0) in virtualbox (with additions) and I have never had
to run xorgsetup. So I'm wondering if your problem is not related to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf. So,
I suggest you to backup this file (ie mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak) and try to
start your virtualized Slackware as is.

Greetings.

Thanks phenixia - that did the trick. I guess I need to read up on both how VBOX and slackware works.

One additional question: I'm impressed with how well everything (screen, fn-keys, trackpoint) work after installing VirtualBox additions. Is there a way to store these configurations so I can use them were I to install Slackware as my primary OS or does the virtulization somehow differ from the real thing in a way that makes this impossible?

Thanks again!

The VirtualBox guest additions are only for VirtualBox guests -- there is no need to have such if you were to install Slackware 14.0 as your primary operating system.

If you did so and then install VirtualBox in Slackware 14.0 and then install some operating system as a guest that guest would need to have the VirtualBox guest additions installed in it; e.g., if you installed Win7 as a guest, it (the Win7 virtual machine) would require the guest additions.

Hope this helps some.
