Can't read lock file tmp .x0-lock xinit: stale nfs file handle

Hello...
I have 2 not-working notes...

One of them stoped working the X, I got this error:

Can't read lock file tmp .x0-lock
xinit: stale nfs file handle

The file can't be deleted:
YES, I did it as root
No, can't be renames also.

It also doesn't work runhe xconfiguration again, neither the nVidia drive. It runs perfect, but when I try to start X, I got that error.

BTW, file system is ext4, slack 13.

I will assume that you are running Slackware 13.37.

1. Install xf86-video-nouveau from extra:
# slackpkg install xf86-video-nouveau

2. Reboot
# shutdown -r now

3. # mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.orig
# nvidia-xconfig

4. $ xwmconfig
choose twm first

5. Report back any problems to this forum.

hey,

I have slack 13.0, but I couldn't find the DVD, in order to see if I could use your solution with this version... :-(

So I simple re-formatted the /tmp , I usually create it as a physical partition, ext2 formatted, so this eliminated that not erasable file.
