Can't mount removable devices

This is a 'clean' upgrade from slack 13.0 to 13.1 (32-bit)
To qualify: / , /home , and /usr/local are on separate partitions
and / was reformatted.

When I attempt to mount a removable device - USB stick or DVD, I
get the following error message:
Code:
Rejected send message, 1 matched rules; type="method_call", sender=":1.134" (uid=1000 pid=6328 comm="exo-mount) interface="org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume" member="Mount" error name="(unset)" requested_reply=0 destination="org.freedesktop.Hal" (uid=0 pid=1843 comm="/usr/sbin/hald)).
The following entry is in my /etc/group file:
Code:
plugdev:x:83:root,tim
I can't recall that when I did this in the past that I had to
reboot or do any restarting ....
Please advise.
thanks
tim

Just to make sure, if you just added yourself to the plugdev group, you must log out and back in before it takes effect.

After adding you to plugdev group I think that should reload the rc.messagebus.
