Can't mount pcmcia cdrom on Compaq Armada 7400

Hi all,

I try to install slack on an old Compaq Armada 7400 laptop with no internal CDROM.
I hv an external cdrom connected trough a pcmcia card wich works fine with zipslack.
I used pcmcia.dsk supplemental disk after booting from bare.i floppy and rootdisk on both image1 and 2 floppy disks too.
There is no cdrom to mount...
I've done:
#cd /proc/ide
and there is no ide drive other then hda.
If i run zipsalck the cdrom works just fine with:
#mount /dev/hdd
Do I have to try a diferent image instead of bare.i ?
Should I load some kernel modules? How?

Thanks.

Dan

This doesn't exactly answer your question, but did you try using a Smart Boot Manager floppy to boot to the PCMCIA CD-ROM drive and load the Slackware CD that way?

That would get the CD-ROM booted even if your BIOS can't handle that (SBM does do PCMCIA CD-ROMs, I have not tried it myself, but it is one of it's listed features). Now, once the CD actually loads up, the setup program is still going to need to be able to mount the CD to actually install from it, but the kernel included on the CD should be more comprehensive driver-wise than the floppy, so I would imagine you have a good shot at it working.
