Question Can't Mount External USB Hard Drive with Custom Compiled Kernel

I have a Maxtor USB external hard drive. When using the huge.s 2.6.17.13 kernel that comes with Slackware 11, I am able to successfully mount the drive which is located on sda1. I've compiled my own 2.6.20.1 kernel but the drive is no longer mountable.

I've tried for hours trying to find the right kernel config option to get this to work. Can anyone point me in the right direction? What kind of things do I need to enable to get my drive to mount?

Do you have SCSI support & mass storage enabled?

If so are they modular or built in?

If modular are they loaded?

AFIK you have to have scsi support in your kernel to use USB storage devices.
