Can't install Java Plugin for Netscape

I was trying to install the java plugin for netscape for about an hour and I'm tired now. I installed the packege to / directory and created a link in plugins directory accroding to the installation instructions. But whenever I do, the next time, Netscape won't start up. But when I remove the link, then it starts up. Right now, there is only 3 things in my plugins folder. "flashplayer.xpt, libflashplayer.so, and libnullplugin.so". How do I fix this thing?

P.S: It's the same with Mozilla Firefox. What's wrong with this thing? How do I install it?

Hi,

Try to launch netscape from a terminal, so we can read error messages (if they exists).

ln -s /usr/local/java/your plugin /usr/local/netscape/plugins

If that don't work, open both folders in kde, drag and drop, click link here.

This is the wierd output.

INTERNAL ERROR on Browser End: No manager for initializing factory?

System error?:: Success

P.S: and for what joe.dale said, can you please explain what you meant by that?

weird netscape error

I got this message too, I my case the error was because I was using a version ns610 plugin (instaled with sdk 1.4.2) with netscape 7.1, after change it to ns610-gcc32 the problem was solved.

Try it and good luck!:cool:

Yes, that sounds like a good possibility. The Mozilla that comes with Slackware 9.1 is compiled with the gcc 3.x series and will not work correctly with a Java plugin compiled with 2.95. You need to use a 3.x compiled version of the Java plugin.

Instead of looking at sites. Go to help, plugins and see if it is listed.

I did as Joe.dale said. Exactly this:

ln -s /usr/java/j2sdk1.4.2/jre/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so /usr/local/netscape/plugins/libjavaplugin_oji.so

just modify /usr/java/j2sdk1.4.2/jre/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so to your java path.

hope this works...
