can't get online

i've just installed slackware 9.1 (probably has nothing to do with it) and i went through xf86config ran startx, it went through flawlessly. i tried to get on gaim but it wouldn't let me log on, i tried to get to a self-help forum through mozilla but nothing happened.

i ran debian before switching to slack9.1 and i didn't have to configure anything, it just autodetected my connection so i went online and did whatever i had to do.

It might help some if you provided more information. Are you on a dial up, cable modem or dsl?? Is your network card or modem being recognized? You are just going to have to help out a little bit if you want to solve the problem. What have you done to solve the problem?

Have you ran "pppsetup" and set everything up correctly in that. Thats all I have ever had to do.

run dmesg and post the output please. You can do this by redirecting the output to a file thus; dmesg > filename . Then open filename and cut and paste the output to the forum.

You could also post the output from lspci using the same technique.
