Can't get it to work

I've been playing around with this slackware 10.1 I've downloaded from linuxiso.org. Actually I'm new to linux and I choose this distro to start learning from it. My problem is I cannot seem to install it properly or I'm just missing something during the setup or configuration. I've followed the guide in installing slackware and I think I have followed it correctly. To be specific, the problem is I cannot boot. My setup is a P4 2.4c, msi 875 mobo, 512 ddr400, fx5200 vidcard. I have used lilo as boot loader because I have a previous installation of XP on my Primary Slave, linux is installed on Primary master. When I choose lilo's simple setup. during boot I get this

L 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99

when I used expert it says it cannot save the lilo and use a bootdisk to start lilo again but then when I used a floppy to boot same problem occur.

And when I skip installing lilo when I restart it says there's no operating system.
Guys, can you figure out what's the probelm in here? I've been installing this distro many times to no avail and I'm starting to get frustrated. Hope you could help me. Thanks! regards!

It seems like there is a problem installing LILO to the MBR. Why don't you create a boot disk during installation, boot from that then try to install LILO whilst logged into Slack. You could also try installing GRUB instead of LILO, once ou have logged in.

First of all, welcome to LQ forums.

Your error is this:
99 invalid second stage index sector (LILO)
Errors 99 and 9A usually mean the map file (-m or
map=) is not readable, likely because LILO was not re-run after some sys-
tem change, or there is a geometry mis-match between what LILO used (lilo
-v3 to display) and what is actually being used by the BIOS (one of the
lilo diagnostic disks, available in the source distribution, may be
needed to diagnose this problem).

So you need to reinstall lilo.

1. boot from slackware CD, choose the kernel and wait till you hit the prompt (the one you typed setup when you were installing slack)
2. type
Code:
fdisk -l
(thats a low L not an 1) to find out the the partition you installed slack (lets say hda3 for example)

3. make a new directory :
Code:
 mkdir slack
4.mount your slackware partition under this:
Code:
mount /dev/hda3 slack
5. use chroot:
Code:
chroot slack
6. reinstall lilo:
Code:
/sbin/lilo
7. type exit

8.reboot (ALT+CTRL+DEL)

Thanks for the replies.

@Perfect_circle I think that solved the problem. Reinstalling lilo and after reading some from the forums I managed to successfully dual boot my pc by manually setting up lilo. Thanks again.
