Can't get back to the text terminal after exiting from any window manager
I have installed slackware 12, each time that I exit from any window manager the screen remains black, the video mode of the text console is not restored correctly, I can change the terminals with Alt+F1 F2 etc and execute commands but there's nothing displayed, I installed slackware 2 times and the same happened, and I tried to switch to any text terminal with Ctrl+Alt+F* while using X and my monitor says that the video signal is out of range, any suggestion?

something seems to go wrong when your x server is shutting down. maybe there is a hint somewhere in your Xorg.log (or whatever the exact name is).
does the screen turn black black? or black like normal black, like when it is turned off?

The screen remains black with the same video mode that was active while using X and the video mode of the terminal isn't restored (the screen remains black while Hsync/Vsync is active), sometimes I can switch to the text terminal display while being under X and sometimes no, instead I got "signal out of range" in my monitor when switching to the text terminal.

Hi,
Did you look at your logs in '/var/log/' ?
What happens when you type 'reset' in the console? What about 'clear'?
If you 'man reset' & 'man clear' you will see how the commands perform and what to expect.

yes I did and I noticed that X continues running even after I exit from any window manager, as I at first used startx from runlevel 3, now I'm starting X with 'init 4'.
It seems that this issue didnt happened when I disabled dri in my xorg.conf at the beginning, I dont know exactly if running X in runlevel 3 can be the problem
