I know it's loading in default kernel, yet with default kernel's .config I can't find it in the Sound section. How am I supposed to put it in my custom kernel? I saw it in 2.6.1 config.
BTW I tried 2.6.1 and had bad results so sticking with 2.4.22.
ALSA is only available in-kernel in the 2.6 series. If you want it in the 2.4 kernels, you have to go to www.alsa-project.org, download and install the drivers separately.
Originally posted by Kovacs afaik you should use 2.4.24 because there is a kernel vulnerability in 2.4.22, it's how the debian servers got cracked.
As I understand it, the vulnerability is only an issue for servers running web services and not an issue for the average desktop. Of course, you should not run any services you don't exlicitly need, so...
alsa is included with slack 9.1. it has the .9.6 drivers, just install them. i guess it is loaded as a module, it works fine for me using the ac97 sound on my via motherboard
wow this was my 100th post!
