Question Can't edit profile in Xfce whisker menu (mugshot not found)

Apparently the menu requires this program 'mugshot'. I looked around and I suppose I could install it from source, but it seems to have a bunch of requirements that I would also have to install from source. Couldn't find slackbuilds for most of these.

Is it possible to use a program other than mugshot(there is an option to change the program used for editing the profile), and which program would that be? Or perhaps I can put some files somewhere to manually fill my profile in the whisker menu?

Hi
You can build mugshot from source and use sbopkg for the dependencies with the exception of accountsservice

The dependencies i had to install were below (copy and paste to create your own queue file in /var/lib/sbopkg/queues/)

Code:
@dbus-python3
python-distutils-extra |PYTHON3=yes
@pygobject3-python3
@python3-pexpect

Account services can be installed using the usual way:
Code:
./configure  --pref=/usr/ --libdir=/usr/lib64/ --sysconfdir=/etc/
make
make install

mugshot can be installed by running the following:
Code:
python3 setup.py install
glib-compile-schemas /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/
Mugshot setup will complain some; that's why you have to run the schema rebuild manually.

What do you want to change about your profile? You might not even need mugshot.

Another feature added in this release was the inclusion of a small profile picture next to the username. You can set what program is launched to edit your profile when you click it; by default it tries to run the program mugshot.

Just my 2 cents, to change the user avatar on whisker menu, you can copy the file you want as avatar to ~/.face

So if it is just about having a picture, it might be worth a try to just:
Code:
cp nice_picture_of_me.png ~/.face

Thanks you guys! Indeed I only wanted to change the picture. Copying the image to ~/.face did the trick. Will mark this as solved now.

Pretty late to the party here, but, if anyone else finds this thread and just changed their picture and does not need Mugshot, you can change the behavior of the whisker menu to do something else when you click on your user picture in the menu. I have mine setup to launch Thunar at my home directory. Hope this helps someone. =)
