can't change gnome screen size

i am new to linux and trying to learn how to use it effectively. installed slackware 10.1 and chose gnome 2.6 as the default gui. when gnome loads, the screen resolution is stuck at 640x480. I've gone to the screen resolution preferences and it will not change. I'm running a machine with intel i810 chipset. How can I correct this problem?

Hi, last time i knew slackware was running Xorg, which means that to change the resolution settings you would either

Code:

edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf or run xorgcfg
It may be that only the default resolution is too low, there is a little known shortcut in X that allows you to change the resolution

Code:

Ctrl - Alt +
This will scroll through the resolution for you :)

Hope this helps,
There are lots of threads here about configuring X if you get stuck

Hi!

I do have the same problem, in what part do I need to change in this config.

edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf or run xorgcfg

and how do I do this shortcut?

Ctrl - Alt +

Is it a combination of "Ctrl" and "Alt" keys only? Can I run it in textmode?

Thank you very much again Sir!

Ryan
